Once again I am between projects and stuck in Cincinnati, so I have decided that I will study for my wireless certification test to be taken next January in Orlando.

So if any of you need something to occupy your time you could find the answers to the following:

1)What is the function of a frequency coordinator?

2)Who is Georg Simon Ohm and what did he do?

    3)What is a Fresnel Zone?

    4)What is Free Space Optics?

5)What is a waveguide and why does it need to be pressurized?

    6)What is an Erlang?

    7)What is a Funkmeldeempfanger?

8)What is a voltage injector and how is it used in WLANs (Wireless LANs)?

    9)What is Galvanic Corrosion?

    10)What is a radiating cable?

Answers will be judged in two categories:

1)Who gets the most correct answers, I will judge this one.

2)Who has the funniest and most original answers, to be voted on by the group?

The contest ends a 5:00 PM today and the winner of each category is invited to our house for dinner.

What is an Erlang? It is slang word for a Northern Kentucky redneck whose free time consists of drinking Old Milwaukee in the back of his 1972 Chevy pickup with his dog, "Buford."

The City of Erlanger was named for its concentration of Erlangs.

Ok, I guess my tests aren?t as much fun as Greg?s. Anyway Reason wins dinner for two at Trav?s and GAE?s house.

For all of you who are dieing to know the answers, see below:

    1) What is the function of a frequency coordinator? A frequency coordinator, normally a specialized attorney, is a consultant who helps end users through the FCCs licensing process required to setup an RF (Radio Frequency) microwave system within the licensed spectrum.

    2) Who is Georg Simon Ohm and what did he do? He invented Ohm?s law where current is equal to voltage divided by resistance or I=V/R

    3) What is a Fresnel Zone? The circular zone around a direct path between a wireless transmitter and receiver free of other radiation sources.

    4) What is Free Space Optics? A low power laser used for outdoor point-to-point transmission.

    5) What is a waveguide and why does it need to be pressurized? A hollow square or oblong tube, normally copper that RF waves travel through from the transmitting equipment on the ground to the antenna on the tower. It is pressurized to eliminate water intrusion.

    6) What is an Erlang? It?s a unit of voice traffic measurement

    7) What is a Funkmeldeempfanger? A Germen radio connector

    8) What is a voltage injector and how is it used in WLANs (Wireless LANs)? A voltage injector is a device that is placed within a wired Ethernet circuit that provides DC voltage to the end device, normally a wireless access point or a VoIP phone.

    9) What is Galvanic Corrosion? It?s corrosion caused when to dissimilar metals come into contact with each other.

    10) What is a radiating cable? A coax cable used as an antenna, it has slits cut down to the central conductor to provide a path for the RF to radiate out. Mostly used to provide wireless access within tunnels.
